Profile Summary

Bundu Conteh is a dedicated Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Consultant and WASH Specialist with over 12 years of experience in environmental engineering, sustainable development, and public health. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Civil Engineering (Environment and Arid and Semi-Arid Lands – ASAL) at the Pan African University, Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI), Kenya. His research focuses on the topic: “Modeling the Effects of Mercury Contamination on Ecosystem and Human Health in Lake Sonfon, Sierra Leone,” addressing the environmental and public health impacts of artisanal mining and mercury pollution in sensitive aquatic ecosystems.

Bundu holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Suzhou University of Science and Technology, China, and a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Njala University, Sierra Leone. He has a robust background in environmental impact assessment, climate change adaptation, soil and groundwater remediation, and risk management.
Throughout his career, Bundu has led numerous WASH initiatives in Sierra Leone with significant results—constructing over 250 WASH facilities, reducing WASH-related illnesses by 80%, and training over 2,000 community health workers and stakeholders. His work has consistently bridged the gap between environmental sustainability and community health improvement, especially during critical emergencies such as the Ebola outbreak.
He has worked with reputable organizations including Action Against Hunger, GOAL International, and Environmental Management Services (SL) Limited, managing donor-funded projects from DFID, USAID, CDC, and UNICEF. Bundu is known for his skills in program design, environmental monitoring, and community engagement.

He is a certified member of the Association of Environmental Engineers of Sierra Leone (AEESL) and the Water, Sanitation and Health Network of Sierra Leone (WaSHNet-SL). Bundu is passionate about addressing global environmental challenges, including climate change, water security, and pollution, through research-driven and community-based solutions.
